CARIBOU TENNIS TEAM
The Vikings capped off an undefeated season by sweeping Falmouth 5-0 to win their first-ever Class B state championship in boys tennis. Not only did Caribou go 16-0 in its matches, but coach John Habeeb’s club went 80-0 in individual matches during the season.
Small School (Classes C-D)
ANDY KAY
The Katahdin of Stacyville junior righthander pitched the Cougars to their first Eastern Maine Class D baseball title since 1993, striking out 15 and allowing just one hit in a 3-0 victory over Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook in the regional final at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
GIRLS
Big School (Classes A-B)
MELANIE JUDKINS
The Brewer High School sophomore righthander has combined to allow three runs on seven hits while striking out 40 in three postseason games. Judkins led the top-ranked Witches to victories over Oxford Hills of South Paris, Skowhegan and Bangor as they claimed the Eastern Maine championship.
Small School (Classes C-D)
NICOLE OSBORNE
Calais High School sophomore Nicole Osborne collected three RBIs in two games as the Blue Devils advanced to the Class C state championship game. Osborne drove in the eventual winning run in a 6-5 semifinal win over Houlton and singled in two runs to spark a four-run first inning in a 6-5 regional final triumph over top-ranked Sumner of East Sullivan.
