2 juveniles questioned about Old Town fire

OLD TOWN – Two juveniles were questioned Thursday after a fire destroyed a contractor’s trailer Wednesday afternoon in Old Town at a site near the Red Shield Environmental LLC facility on Main Street.

Old Town Deputy Fire Chief James Lavoie said the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze, which is considered suspicious.

Investigators were at the site Thursday. The trailer was located across from Boyle Motorcycle at 900 Main St.

The fire was reported at 3:09 p.m. Wednesday. The trailer, owned by Hillside Electric Inc. of Bucksport, contained electrical equipment. The trailer and its contents probably are a total loss, Lavoie said. The trailer was insured.

A man who lives near the trailer saw the juveniles in the area. Lavoie said they ran after the man started to chase them.

Lavoie said the fire was not connected to the current shutdown at the Red Shield facility, which is the site of the former Georgia-Pacific Corp. mill. About 160 employees have been out of work since June 6 because of a low wood supply.

“This is definitely a case of juveniles making poor decisions,” Lavoie said.
