AUGUSTA – Maine election officials on Thursday completed a recount of ballots from a Democratic House primary contest that ended in a tie after the election.
But even after the recount of ballots from the House District 107 race in Yarmouth, results are inconclusive.
Election officials say 484 ballots were cast for Melissa Walsh Innes and 482 for Kimberly McLaughlin.
Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said that while the recount indicates a two-vote win for Innes, three ballots are being disputed – one by McLaughlin and two by Innes. Exactly whom the disputed ballots have been cast for is now up to the state supreme court to decide.
The Democratic winner is slated to face Republican Brian Bicknell in November’s general election.
