PORTLAND – A Portland man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for shooting a police officer who was trying to arrest him at a South Portland apartment two years ago.
Terrel Dubois was convicted in March of attempted murder for shooting South Portland Officer Steven Connors as he and another officer attempted to take Dubois into custody on a felony warrant.
Connors was hit in the chest, shoulder and hand, while a fourth shot grazed his skull. The officers returned fire, wounding Dubois in the buttocks and thigh.
Cumberland County Superior Court Justice Joyce Wheeler on Monday sentenced Dubois for attempted murder, kidnapping his former girlfriend and dealing drugs.
