Prison guard indicted in sex assault case

PORTLAND – A second guard at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham stands accused of sexually assaulting someone in custody.

The Cumberland County grand jury has indicted Glen Works of Mechanic Falls on charges of rape and failure to report a sexual assault. Authorities at the prison declined to elaborate on the charges but told WGAN-AM radio that Works resigned his position last week.

In April, Bradford Howard of Lyman was indicted on similar charges. He was initially placed on paid leave during an investigation, but he no longer works at the prison.
