PORTLAND – With presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain in Maine to raise money and speak to supporters, Barack Obama’s supporters are challenging McCain’s records on energy and economic issues.
At a news conference in Portland on Monday, Democratic House Speaker Glenn Cummings said McCain repeatedly has voted against increased federal funding for home heating assistance for needy Americans. He said Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate, is in touch with challenges facing Maine families.
Cummings’ comments came at the Portland home of Lewis and CC Robinson, who bought a wood-pellet stove last winter to keep down heating costs.
McCain came to Maine for private fundraisers in Kennebunkport and a public appearance at the Maine Military Museum in South Portland.
