Bangor Junior stars reach final Brewer advances in Senior tourney

FALMOUTH – Luke Hettermann and Josiah Hartley each hit two singles, a double and knocked in two runs to help Bangor eliminate Falmouth 12-9 in a Junior League All-Star baseball state tournament game Monday.

Bangor plays Bucksport for the championship today at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor at 5 p.m. If Bangor wins, it will play again Wednesday in Bucksport at 5 p.m.

Dylan Morris singled three times for Bangor. Bryan Rouleau hit two singles and Christian Corneil doubled.

Grayson Beressi led Falmouth with a double and two singles. Nicky Spencer doubled and singled.

Bucksport wins two

At Falmouth, Tyler McAllian hit a single and a fifth-inning grand slam to lead Bucksport past Falmouth 18-0 Sunday.

Bucksport had edged Bangor 5-4 Saturday.

In Saturday’s game, Cody Davis hit two singles and drove in three runs for Bucksport. McAllian singled twice and Ryan Bailey added a single and an RBI.

Curtis Worcester hit an RBI double to pace Bangor. Dylan Morris doubled and scored a run.

In Sunday’s game, Davis allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five through five shutout innings for Bucksport.

Matt Swazey hit a double and two singles and Billy Deredin singled three times. Shawn Smith doubled and singled. Davis and Andrew Giosia both singled twice.

Nick Spencer paced Falmouth with two doubles and Ryan Conley singled.

Bangor East advances

At Lebanon, Bangor East advanced through the losers bracket with a 7-1 elimination victory over Down East Family YMCA of Ellsworth.

Saco eliminated Auburn-Suburban 5-1 in Monday’s second game, setting up a Wednesday showdown against Bangor East at 6 p.m.

Undefeated Camden-Rockport plays in a winners bracket game today at 6 p.m. against the District 6 champ.

District 3, Senior League

Brewer 16, Hampden 12

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Colby Small and Kyle McLain stroked RBI doubles and Pat McEwen rapped a run-scoring triple during a four-run fifth inning that gave Brewer a bit of breathing room.

Blake Birmingham’s RBI single in the fourth had put Brewer on top for good.

Small added another double and two more RBIs, while Birmingham also posted a triple and another RBI for the winners. Brandon Gendreau singled twice and knocked in a run.

Matt Lindemann collected four singles with an RBI to pace Hampden, which was eliminated. Brad Melanson plated three runs with two singles, Alex Cust singled twice with two RBIs and Jonathan Johnson added two singles.

State tourney, Jr. League

Rockland wins two

At Calais, Rockland claimed two victories over the weekend to advance to Wednesday’s championship game in the Junior League Softball State Tournament.

Rockland defeated Calais 18-1 on Saturday and beat Saco 11-6 on Sunday.

On Saturday, Saco defeated Falmouth 4-2 and Calais eliminated Hampden 8-3 on Sunday.

In Sunday’s second game, Jessica Veilleux hit a single and a first-inning, two-run double to lead Rockland past Saco.

Natalie Russell knocked in two runs and recorded eight strikeouts for Rockland.

Kristen Duross hit an RBI double in the second inning for Saco. Mary Brown had a two-run single in the seventh and Vanessa McCrum doubled.

In Saturday’s first game, Rockland pounded out 14 hits to defeat Calais.

Russell pitched a no-hitter, struck out 11 and walked one in four innings for Rockland.

In Saturday’s second game, Katie Kalagais had nine strikeouts to lead Saco past Falmouth.

Falmouth’s Kelsey Freedman hit a two-run double.

In Sunday’s first game, Emily McCadden doubled and singled to drive in two runs for Calais. Shannon Brown doubled and scored. Miranda McLean added an RBI double.

Logan Hardy singled and scored for Hampden.
