Gerard goal lifts Owls past Devils Madawaska girls improve to 10-1-1

CALAIS – Kay Gerard knocked in a pass from Kristin Cyr with 4:08 remaining in the first overtime Saturday as Madawaska eked out a 1-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over Calais.

Meghan Marshall made four saves on five shots en route to the shutout. The Owls improved to 10-1-1.

For 7-3-1 Calais, Katie Welch registered six saves on eight shots.

Hampden 4, Presque Isle 1

At Presque Isle, Tyne Franchi scored two goals to help the Broncos remain unbeaten. It was Hampden’s 32nd straight regular-season victory.

Katie Lindemann and Kim Stephenson scored one goal each for 13-0 Hampden, while Jani Bosse provided an assist. Emily Russell made nine saves on 10 shots.

Autumn Tuttle scored on a penalty kick for 8-3-2 Presque Isle. Jessica Price piled up 24 saves on 28 shots.

JV: Presque Isle 2-1

Woodland 1, East Grand 0

At Woodland, Alicia Vose scored on assist from Kaitlyn Leeman at 31:53 of the second half, lifting the Dragons to victory.

Beth Covey and Ali Seavey combined to make six saves on eight shots for 8-5-0 Woodland.

Paula Osnoe made six saves on 13 shots for 1-4-3 East Grand of Danforth.

Shead 7, Highview Christian 2

At Eastport, the Tigerettes unleashed a late-game flurry en route to the win over Highview Christian of Charleston. Valerie Bowen led the way with three goals and an assist.

Shead trailed 2-1 at halftime, but wore down the Knights by the end of the second half. Highview Christian suited up just 11 players.

Skylar Richardson provided two goals and an assist for the Tigerettes. Celia Cummings added a goal and two assists, Samantha Davis had a goal and an assist, and Vicki Morrison chipped in with an assist. Roliza DeWitt and Mary Ingersoll combined for three saves on five shots for 5-8-0 Shead.

Linda Perina recorded both goals and Alyssa Scott had both assists for 0-8-0 Highview Christian. Sherry Cooper registered 17 saves on 28 shots.

Hermon 1, Nokomis 1 (2OT)

At Hermon, Nokomis of Newport’s Lindsey Welch converted a pass from Kristina Gonzalez at the 31:37 mark of the second half to tie the game and end the scoring.

Sara Lowe turned back 11 of 14 shots for the 6-6-1 Warriors.

For 1-10-2 Hermon, Chantelle Haggerty recorded a first-half goal on an assist from Jodi Reynolds. Shannon Wiggin notched six saves on 15 shots.

JV: Hermon 2-0

MDI 0, Old Town 0 (2OT)

At Mount Desert Island, the Trojans and the Indians remained scoreless in a match marked by tough defense and top-notch goalkeeping.

For 7-1-5 Old Town, Whitney Carey made seven saves on nine shots. Sarah Johnson stopped 17 of 22 shots for the 1-10-2 Trojans.

Ellsworth 5, Sumner 0

At Ellsworth, Mallory Patten and Jodie Merchant each scored a pair of goals as Ellsworth blanked Sumner of East Sullivan.

Monica Gardner added a goal and Victoria Jones made five saves on six shots for the Eagles.

Sumner’s Hillary Page turned back 12 of 32 shots.

Bucksport 0, GSA 0 (2OT)

At Blue Hill, the Bucks and the Eagles ended in a scoreless stalemate.

For 11-0-2 Bucksport, Jana Richards stopped 10 of 18 shots. Sarah Kilch notched nine saves on 14 shots for 8-4-2 George Stevens Academy.

BC Patriots 2, Penobscot Valley 0

At Bangor, Heather Niles and Monique Veilleux booted a goal each as the Patriots shut out Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Kendil Snow recorded seven saves on 10 shots for Bangor Christian. Kylie McGinn totaled 10 saves on 17 shots for the Howlers.

Dexter 2, Foxcroft 0

At Dexter, Lindsay Turner notched a goal and an assist to pace Dexter past Foxcroft.

Tiffany Wintle scored the other goal for the 7-5-1 Tigers. Daphne Robichaud made 12 saves on 13 shots.

For the 2-7-2 Ponies, Darcy McCormick registered 18 saves on 22 shots.

Boys soccer

Fort Kent 6, Old Town 3

At Old Town, James Raymond pulled out a hat trick to lift Fort Kent over Old Town.

Ethan Raymond, Ben Bouchard and Anthony Lamar chipped in with a goal and an assist each and Chuck Gange tallied an assist for the 11-2-1 Warriors. Nick Thibodeau made 11 saves on 14 shots.

For the 3-9-1 Indians, Mike Stoup, Kevin Emerson and John Garrity registered goals and Matt Petrie notched two assists. Tyler Tracewski recorded nine saves on 15 shots.

JV: Old Town 4-0

Bangor 0, Caribou 0 (2OT)

At Caribou, the Rams and the Vikings concluded their match in a scoreless deadlock.

Payson Nichols recorded 16 saves on 22 shots for 9-4-1 Bangor. His Caribou counterpart, Nick Chasse, had 10 saves on 16 shots for the 9-3-1 Vikings.

Calais 4, Madawaska 1

At Calais, Andy Frost booted two goals and two assists as the Blue Devils downed the Owls.

Darren Morrell and Scott MacDonald chipped in with goals for 9-3-1 Calais. Nathan Pelletier logged 10 saves on 13 shots.

For the 5-5-2 Owls, Marc Garcia scored on a pass from Myles Morneault. Jon Cowie turned away nine of 14 shots.

Hampden 2, Presque Isle 2 (2OT)

At Presque Isle, Jake Cohen of Hampden netted an unassisted goal with 21:22 remaining in the second half to tie the game and end the scoring.

Eric Libbey added a score for the 7-3-3 Broncos. Ken Mayo stopped eight of 13 shots.

For the 7-2-4 Wildcats, Nick Casavant scored two unassisted goals. Shane Clark totaled 15 saves on 19 shots.

Shead 1, Lubec 0

At Eastport, Ben Maloney’s goal with 20:31 remaining in the game proved to be the difference as the Tigers edged the Hornets.

Maloney took a rebound of a shot and slammed it into the goal from outside the penalty area as Shead improved to 8-4-1. Darrin Constant made five saves on seven shots.

Jordan Hall stopped 13 of 16 shots for 2-11 Lubec.

DI-Stonington 4, J-B Royals 1

At Jonesport, Josh Bolton racked up three goals as Deer-Isle Stonington cruised by Jonesport-Beals.

Brady Ballou added a goal while Jon Gielarowski, Evan Haskell and Doug Hanson recorded an assist apiece for the 7-4-1 Mariners. Bennett Gray made 14 saves on 15 shots.

Matt Bryant scored the goal for the 2-10-1 Royals. Abraham Beal turned away 16 of 20 shots.

Dexter 2, Penobscot Valley 0

At Dexter, Jeremy Kenney kicked in both goals as Dexter blanked Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Mitch Sawyer chipped in with an assist and Brian Hersey made nine saves on 20 shots for the 6-6-1 Tigers.

For the 7-5-2 Howlers, Lance Pelkey tallied eight saves on 19 shots.

Greenville 2, Buckfield 0

At Greenville, Tyler Muzzy delivered a pair of goals as Greenville topped Buckfield.

Jordan Belmont chipped in with an assist and Gregory Aucoin made six saves on 15 shots for the 11-0-2 Lakers.

For 6-4-0 Buckfield, Jeremy Stevens tallied seven saves on 20 shots.

Piscataquis 4, Penquis 2

At Guilford, Kyle Pulkkinen connected for three unassisted goals as Piscataquis topped Penquis of Milo.

Jon Prescott added a goal on a pass from Harper Hoffman for the 8-3-3 Pirates. Josh Luellen and Brandon Jones combined for five saves on 10 shots.

For the 7-4-2 Patriots, Paul Kusnierz and Ben Knapp logged unassisted goals. Mike Grindle turned away nine of 19 shots.

Foxcroft 1, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, Manuel Blanc stroked a free kick from 18 yards away with 14:50 left in the second half as Foxcroft slipped by John Bapst of Bangor.

Matt Hackett was perfect in the goal, stifling all 25 shots he faced. The Ponies improved to 9-4-1.

For 11-2-0 John Bapst, Bill Chapman tallied seven saves on eight shots.

Hermon 2, Nokomis 0

At Hermon, Matt Watson stopped all eight shots he faced en route to his fifth shutout the year and Hermon triumphed over Nokomis of Newport.

Parker Roberts and Adam Gould netted unassisted scores for the 7-5-1 Hawks.

For the 1-11-1 Warriors, Mike Jacques registered nine saves on 11 shots.
