Woman charged in theft at Shaw’s

A Bangor woman on Monday evening opened a cooler at Shaw’s grocery store on Main Street, took out a Coke and began to drink the beverage, according to police.

Then she apparently tried to leave the store at about 5:15 p.m. while concealing a number of candy bars, but was stopped by store security, Sgt. Bob Bishop said Tuesday.

Amanda Gendreau, 24, of Second Street was arrested for theft by unauthorized taking and taken to Penobscot County Jail. She later was released on bail, a jail official said. Gendreau also was given a criminal trespass notice banning her from Shaw’s for one year. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
