HAMPDEN – A Hampden teenager remains hospitalized in stable condition after being injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday on Back Winterport Road.
Lisa Pearson, 17, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of head injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to Officer Joshua Gunn of the Hampden Police Department. Her passenger, 23-year-old David Holmes of Newburgh, was not injured, Gunn said.
The accident occurred about 4 p.m., roughly 50 yards from the Hampden-Winterport town line.
Pearson was driving into Hampden when she lost control of the 2005 Toyota Camry she was driving and overcorrected, sending the car off the roadway sideways, Gunn said. The car traveled another 30 to 40 feet, going down an embankment and coming to rest in a nearby stream.
Gunn said that the accident remained under investigation by police in Hampden and Bangor, which sent an accident reconstructionist to help determine how the accident happened.
He said, however, that speed and driver inexperience appear to have been factors.
Both drivers were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash, Gunn said. He also said that the car’s air bags deployed.
The car was demolished, he said.
