Woman, 25, charged with heroin trafficking

Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents on Monday stopped a Southwest Harbor woman, who they believed was dealing drugs, in Bangor and found heroin.

Michelle Harper, 25, was arrested and is charged with trafficking heroin, a class B felony, said Garry Higgins, MDEA supervisory special agent for the Bangor-based North Central Regional Task Force, District 5.

Harper “was known” to agents and was being watched as part of an ongoing investigation into trafficking, he said. She was stopped at around 7 p.m. on Main Street in Bangor.

If convicted, Harper could face up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $20,000. She is scheduled to be in Penobscot County Superior Court in Bangor on Oct. 31.

The amount of heroin was not released because the case is still under investigation, Higgins said. Bangor Police Department assisted with the case, he said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

Two people were issued summonses for theft Thursday after trying to steal clothes and shoes from a Bangor department store.

Bangor police responded to Kohl’s off Stillwater Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Security at the store had detained a man and woman.

Danielle McCluski, 26, and Jason Colcord, 30, each were charged with theft for attempting to steal an undetermined amount of clothing and footwear, Sgt. Allen Hayden said.

Colcord also was arrested on two outstanding warrants and was taken to Penobscot County Jail. Hayden did not know what the warrants were for. (Eric Russell, BDN)

A fire in Kenduskeag on Wednesday evening damaged a garage business and several vehicles that were near or in the garage, Kenduskeag Fire Chief Jon Seifert said Thursday.

Rick’s Auto Repair on the Town House Road was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived just after 5 p.m.

“We found flames showing from the garage and three vehicles in the garage and a Dumpster also was involved,” Seifert said. The blaze was “mostly to the left side of the garage.”

The business owner, Richard Bushey, was not at home at the time of the blaze, which was reported by his son who lives down the street and who had stopped by, the fire chief said.

An office at the back of the business sustained minor smoke and water damage, but was saved along with an adjacent home, he said.

An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to determine the cause of the fire. About 30 firefighters from Kenduskeag, Corinth, Levant and Glenburn assisted with fighting the fire, and Hermon provided water, Seifert said.

No injuries were reported, and crews were back at their stations by 8:30 p.m. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
