Panthers persist, win on late goal

MARS HILL – Zach Stetson scored on an assist from Manny Martinez with 6:29 left in the second half to lift the Central Aroostook Panthers to a 3-2 boys soccer victory over Wisdom of St. Agatha Friday.

Martinez also scored a goal for Central Aroostook, while Dan Brewer contributed a goal and an assist.

Ross Grass preserved the win in goal with four saves on 10 shots for the 3-3-1 Panthers.

Alex Michaud and Kody Chamberlain scored for Wisdom of Saint Agatha, while Curtis Daigle chipped in with an assist.

Curtis Collins made nine saves on 21 shots for the 1-4 Pioneers.

So. Aroostook 3, Easton 1

At Dyer Brook, Tyler Robinson and Dakota Sleeper each had a goal and an assist to lead the Southern Aroostook Warriors past Easton.

Mike Casey had a goal and Patrick Goodall made 15 saves on 20 shots for the 2-1-1 Warriors.

Brad Trask scored unassisted for the 5-1 Bears while Cody Tompkins had seven saves on 13 shots.

Caribou 3, Houlton 0

At Caribou, Cameron Anderson scored all three goals – two via penalty kicks – and led the host Vikings past Houlton.

Eric Brown notched the shuout with five saves on six shots in the Vikings’ season-opener.

Ryan Vanbuskirk made nine saves on 18 shots for the 0-4 Shiretowners.

JV: Caribou 2-0

Ashland 5, Washburn 0

At Ashland, Jake Paradis had two goals and an assist and Jeremy Tarr also scored twice as the Hornets remained undefeated.

Paradis scored both of his goals in the first half to help 3-0 Ashland build a 4-0 lead by intermission.

Jeremy Tarr had one goal in each half, while his brother, Kenny Tarr, scored off a Paradis assist during the opening 40 minutes of play.

Bobby Gardiner made 16 saves on 16 shots to earn the win in goal.

Justin Howe stopped 10 of 30 shots for 1-5 Washburn.

Fort Fairfield 5, Van Buren 1

At Fort Fairfield, Josh Booth’s three goals paced the Tigers’ five-goal first half.

Josh Churchill and Nick Avery also tallied for Fort Fairfield, while Travis Noyes posted three assists and Derek Dufour and Churchill had one each.

Austin Dufour recorded six saves on 10 shots for the Tigers.

Dereck Rossignol scored for the Crusaders, and Andrew Lapointe made 12 saves on 25 shots.

Girls soccer

Central Aroostook 2, Wisdom 1

At Mars Hill, Rachel Grew and Brittany Mosher scored goals as the Panthers improved their record to 2-5.

Crystal Paradis scored with seven seconds left in the match to avert the shutout for Wisdom of Saint Agatha, which had just 10 players for the game due to illness and injury.

Vicki McIntyre and Heather Bradstreet combined to make three saves on eight shots for Central Aroostook. Suzie Collins made seven saves on 15 shots for 0-6 Wisdom.

Ashland 3, Washburn 1

At Presque Isle, Brooke Labelle had a goal and an assist to lead the Ashland Hornets past Washburn.

Anna Paradis and Crystal Cook each scored a goal for the 3-0 Hornets. Jackie D’Ozier had one assist. Taylor Baker made one save on two shots.

For the 4-2 Beavers, Morgan Berube scored a goal and Rebecca Campbell assisted. Rachel Palmer made 21 saves on 28 shots.

Van Buren 5, Fort Fairfield 0

At Fort Fairfield, Lindsay LaJoie scored four goals to lead the Van Buren Crusaders to the shutout victory.

Kelly Vaillancourt scored a goal for the 4-1 Crusaders and Ashlie Wilson made six saves on 14 shots.

Paige Beaulieu and Katy Donovan combined to make four saves on 10 shots.

So. Aroostook 8, Easton 1

At Dyer Brook, Janel Rockwell scored three goals to lead the Southern Aroostook Warriors to a home victory.

Evangeline Goodall had two goals and an assist while Brittany Charette added one goal and an assist for the Warriors. Elizabeth Goodall and Jasmine Rockwell had one goal apiece. Emily Cummings and Mallory Lawlor combined for 22 saves on 23 shots.

Kilynne Beaulieu scored an unassisted goal for the Bears. Taylor Burtt made 12 saves on 20 shots.
