N.Y. plane crashes; no serious injuries

HARPSWELL – Federal agencies in Maine are investigating the crash of a small plane from Long Island. The pilot and two passengers walked away with only minor injuries.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department says the 2002 Cessna 172 Sky Hawk crashed into trees near three houses at about 1:30 p.m. Monday. The pilot had circled a landing strip and then tried to land the plane in heavy winds.

The flight originated from the East Hampton Airport in New York. The pilot was identified as Ari Meisel of New York. He and the passengers, a male and female, suffered minor cuts and scrapes.
