Barbara Fister, executive director of My Friend’s Place, an adult social program in Bangor, has announced the introduction of a new program, Memory Joggers, which is specifically designed for people “experiencing early memory loss,” she said.

An informational meeting for Memory Joggers will be held 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St., Bangor.

The guest speaker is Dr. James D. Thomas, a clinical neuropsychologist of Neuropsychology of Maine-Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Fister said the focus of the meeting would be to answer questions about early memory loss, how to identify early memory loss, and help for family and individuals within the community for early memory loss.

Joyce Leck of Brooksville reports the Jolly Helpers will hold a buffet lunch at noon Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the vestry of West Brooksville Congregational Church on Coastal Road, Route 176.

Admission is $5 for the meal, which includes soups, salads and sandwiches with apple crisp and ice cream for dessert.

Carey Nason reports that the Penobscot Valley Chapter of Maine Audubon will hold its seventh annual benefit auction beginning with a preview at 6 p.m. and bidding at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Fields Pond Audubon Center, 219 Fields Pond Road in Holden.

The preview includes hors d’oeuvres, finger foods, desserts, and a selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages.

Chapter president Bob Duchesne will be the auctioneer for this benefit, which includes everything from antique prints and furnishings from private collections to an autographed Stephen King novel. Proceeds benefit the work of the local Audubon chapter.

The one-room Greer’s Corner Schoolhouse is 100 years old, wrote Isabel Morse Maresh of the historic Belmont facility.

To celebrate, the Greene Plantation Historical Society of Belmont will hold a Remembrance Day open house at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the schoolhouse, located on the corner of Lincolnville and Back Belmont roads in Belmont.

Former students, families and friends are invited to attend, and refreshments will be served.

Historical society members are collecting names and addresses of former students and asking people with photographs of former students, the schoolhouse, old Belmont or other memorabilia to offer them to the historical society for scanning purposes, Maresh wrote.

The one-room Greer’s Corner Schoolhouse is listed on the national Register of Historic Places and is “believed to be the only building, in Belmont, to be registered with the National Park Service as a historic building,” Maresh said.

She urges you to come to Remembrance Day and “share your memories and meet old classmates.”
