Collins bus tour stops at GE in Pittsfield

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins continued her statewide re-election campaign bus tour Monday with a stop at the General Electric plant in Pittsfield and a tour of a research facility in Scarborough.

Collins, a Republican, is running for re-election to her seat in the U.S. Senate. Her challenger is Democratic 1st District U.S. Rep. Tom Allen.

GE operations manager Bob Belanger led Collins on a tour of the plant, which produces alarm systems. The former Edwards Manufacturing facility employs about 400 people in the Newport and Pittsfield area.

“This is a great example of a high-tech manufacturing firm that is producing a quality product right here in Maine, and exporting its goods all around the world,” Collins said at the plant. “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to visit, meet with its dedicated workers, and to recognize a company that is employing hundreds of people in good-paying jobs in an area of our state that has suffered as a result of the loss of manufacturing jobs over the years.”

Also Monday, Collins visited the Maine Medical Center Research Institute in Scarborough.
