Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Maine could certainly use your help, reports program assistant Jamie Brooks.
The Ellsworth organization “is partnering with area elementary schools to provide on-site mentoring for children who could use a caring friend,” Brooks wrote of the program that is school-based.
Brooks describes this particular program as “a terrific way to become involved in a child’s life through a supportive, supervised environment” for children between the ages of 7 and 14.
She especially wants you to know that to become a volunteer mentor, you “don’t need any special skills, just an interest in helping children in the community.”
Volunteer mentors receive training, ongoing support and supervision from Big Brother Big Sister staff and they and their little brothers or little sisters will have access to materials that the program provides.
If you would like more information about how you can become “a Big in a local school,” or if you would like to offer your help and support for this program in any way, call Big Brother Big Sister at 667-5304 or e-mail bbbs1@downeasat health.org.
