Hornets avenge loss, blank SAHS Warriors

PRESQUE ISLE – Taylor Baker made eight saves to record her seventh shutout of the season and help avenge the Ashland girls soccer team’s loss to Southern Aroostook last week with a 3-0 win over the Warriors of Dyer Brook Wednesday.

The Warriors had snapped Ashland’s 21-game regular-season winning streak.

Brooke Labelle scored a first-half goal off an Andrea Good assist for the 9-1-1 Hornets. Macie Pelkey added a second-half goal on an Anna Paradis pass, and Jessica Jimmo scored off a breakaway.

Emily Cummings made 16 saves for 9-1-1 SAHS. Ashland outshot SAHS 22-8.

Caribou 8, Foxcroft Acad. 2

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jenna Selander and Abby Small scored three goals apiece to spark Caribou by Foxcroft Academy.

Kristen Espling and Lydia Kieffer each chipped in with a goal for Caribou. Brittany Doak stopped 11 of 16 shots for the Vikings.

Paige Hobbs and Shee-Ann Sergeant each scored for Foxcroft Academy. Megan Taylor grabbed two assist while Sarah Whittemore made 11 saves on 25 shots for the Ponies.

Hodgdon 4, East Grand 0

At Hodgdon, Taylor Hovey scored two goals to lead the Hodgdon Hawks past East Grand of Danforth.

Karri Ann Estabrook and Katie Duff each scored one goal for the 5-4-1 Hawks. Cierra Willette notched an assist. Freshman Kim Levesque notched her first career shutout with 10 saves on 12 shots.

For the Vikings, Courtney Lloyd made 28 saves on 37 shots.

Washington Acad. 5, HCA 4

At Charleston, Andi Flannery scored the game-winning goal with 8:14 left in the game on an assist by Irene Lewey as Washington Academy of East Machias edged Highview Christian Academy.

Jana Espling netted three goals while Lewey scored one. Jessie Hardy made five saves on nine shots for the 5-1 Raiders.

Sheila Francis and Heather Dunfee scored two goals apiece for Highview Christian. Anita Allard stopped 29 of 46 shots for the 0-2-1 Knights.

Boys soccer

So. Aroostook 2, Ashland 0

At Presque Isle, Patrick Goodall scored a first-half goal and assisted on David DuBois’ second-half tally as the Warriors of Dyer Brook shut out Ashland.

Dillon Boutlier had 12 saves on 19 shots for 4-5-1 Southern Aroostook.

Andrew Libby and Bobby Gardiner combined for five saves on 12 shots for 7-4 Ashland.

Caribou 3, Foxcroft Acad. 2

At Dover-Foxcroft, Chad Caverhill netted the game-winning goal with 33:21 left in the game as Caribou edged Foxcroft Academy.

Brandon Caverhill and Cameron Anderson each scored a goal for 6-2-1 Caribou. Eric Brown stopped six of eight shots for the Vikings.

Jordan Kim posted both goals for Foxcroft Academy. Alex Gray made four saves on seven shots for the 0-6-1 Ponies.

Presque Isle 2, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, Russ Mortland and Oliver Lubrick scored first-half goals as the Wildcats remained unbeaten.

Wassen Zabrick provided an assist for 7-0-1 Presque Isle. Dillon Kingsbury made seven saves on 24 shots for the winners.

Casey Hull made 11 saves on 12 shots for 3-3-1 John Bapst.

JV: Presque Isle 4-0

Hodgdon 2, East Grand 0

At Hodgdon, Jake Tidd scored two goals to lead Hodgdon past East Grand of Danforth.

Dan McGillicuddy and Jamie Ryan had assists for the 3-7 Hawks. Eric Ryan had nine saves on 14 shots.

Alex Britton stopped 12 of 23 shots for 0-5 East Grand.

George Stevens 5, Sumner 0

At Blue Hill, Dillon Lee scored two goals and had an assist as George Stevens Academy shut out Sumner of East Sullivan.

John Ludlow, Tim Sawyer and Nate Hines each added a goal while Nick Kane grabbed two assists. Hines and Henry Sullivan combined to make six saves on nine shots for the 3-4-1 Eagles.

Joe Malloy stopped nine of 19 shots for 1-7 Sumner.

Old Town 3, MDI 3 (2OT)

At Old Town, Mount Desert Island tallied the game-tying goal with 20 minutes left in the game and it stayed that way through two overtimes.

Abe Gladstone tallied the tying goal for MDI midway through the second half. Ben Steel scored two goals for the 4-2-1 Trojans while Ben Cummings made nine saves on 14 shots .

Dan Zmistowski, Dan LeBreton and Taylor Ploch each scored a first-half goal for Old Town. Luke Bartlett and Chad Paradis each grabbed an assist. Alex Caballero and Lee Larry combined to make five saves on eight shots for the 5-2-1 Coyotes.

Calais 9, Jonesport-Beals 3

At Jonesport, Ben Pagels tallied three goals as Calais topped Jonesport-Beals.

Fabrezio Soberanis and Jeff Johnston each scored two goals while Joe Mitchell and Zach Newman had one goal apiece for Calais. Jordan Leeman made 11 saves on 16 shots for the 4-1 Blue Devils.

Zack Fenton netted two goals for Jonesport-Beals while Terrell Carver scored one. Matt Alley and Carver each had an assist. Cody Thistlewood stopped 22 of 34 shots for the 0-7 Royals.

Shead 2, Narraguagus 0

At Eastport, Caleb Ricker scored two goals in the first half to power Shead past Narraguagus of Harrington.

Tyler Mitchell made three saves on five shots for the 3-2 Tigers.

Brenden Tenney stopped 11 of 14 shots for 2-6 Narraguagus.

Medomak 2, MCI 1

At Pittsfield, Jack Genther and Joaquim Perez netted unassisted goals to lead the Panthers of Waldoboro past Maine Central Institute.

Caleb Thompson had five saves on eight shots for 5-2 Medomak.

Brandon Blaisdell scored for 0-4-1 MCI. Ross Hammond saved 16 of 34 shots.

JV: Medomak 5-0

Piscataquis 4, Penquis 1

At Guilford, J.C. Herrick scored two goals to help power the offense of the Piscataquis Pirates as they knocked off Penquis of Milo.

Brian Hackett had a goal and two assists for the 3-3-2 Pirates. Kyle Steeves added a goal, and Corbin Shufelt made eight saves on 11 shots.

For the 2-4-1 Patriots, Joe Leland scored the lone goal and Richie Russell made 13 saves on 20 shots.

Central 2, Penobscot Valley 1

At Howland, Patrick Byers scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 6:05 remaining in the game to lift Central of Corinth past Penobscot Valley.

Jacob Speed netted a first half goal for Central. Cole Haskell stopped 16 of 21 shots for the 4-2-2 Red Devils.

Adam Calendar scored for PVHS on a pass from Charlie Gardner. Jacob Jones made 11 saves on 16 shots for the 4-2-1 Howlers.

Washington Acad. 2, Machias 1

At East Machias, Noah VonRotz scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the first half on an assist from Milos Gautier as Washington Academy edged Machias.

Sung Min Kim added an unassisted goal in the first half. Bryce Colbeth stopped 15 of 17 shots for the 6-1 Raiders.

Jacob Stevens posted a goal for Machias in the second half. Michael Jenks made 22 saves on 27 shots for the 5-1 Bulldogs.
