Robinson, Duffy spark Cougars Katahdin girls get upset of Ashland

STACYVILLE – Mary Jo Robinson scored 4:32 into the second half on an assist from Melissa Duffy to give the Katahdin Cougars a 1-0 upset victory over Ashland in a schoolgirl soccer game Friday.

Jade Clippinger stopped all nine shots she faced in goal for 3-5-1 Katahdin.

Taylor Baker saved seven of eight shots for 9-2-1 Ashland.

East Grand 3, Highview Chr. 1

At Danforth, Kelsey Daoust scored one goal and set up another to propel the Vikings to their first victory of the season.

Kaitlyn Beaudoin and Shaunna Beaudoin each provided a goal for 1-7 East Grand. Courtney Lloyd made 10 saves on 11 shots.

Sheila Francis scored the goal for 0-3-1 Highview Christian Academy of Charleston. Anita Allard made 20 saves on 23 shots.

Field hockey

Foxcroft 6, Orono 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Sabrina Sharrow scored three goals to lead Foxcroft Academy past Orono.

Kelsey Boss had a goal and four assists while Mariah Arno and Taylor Dow added goals and Molly Cyr an assist for the 7-1 Ponies. Cassie Carter had two saves on three shots.

Audrey Landis scored for 3-5 Orono. Amber Saucier saved 16 of 21 shots.

JV: Foxcroft 3-0

Boys soccer

Katahdin 6, Ashland 0

At Stacyville, Ethan Qualey scored three goals and assisted another as Katahdin defeated Ashland.

Marshall Davis had a goal and three assists for 9-0 Katahdin. Mickey Savage and Colby Gallagher both had a goal and an assist. Matt Tarr stopped seven of 12 shots.

Bobby Gardiner made 15 saves on 24 shots for 7-4 Ashland.

Highview Chr. 5, East Grand 2

At Danforth, Stefan Rowe scored three goals and assisted on another to power Highview Christian Academy of Charleston to victory.

Ryosuka Yamada tallied two goals for the 4-2 Knights, while Jeffrey Niles posted two assists. Wesley Jones made 12 saves on 18 shots.

Abe Brittain and Andrew Gilman scored one goal each to lead 0-6 East Grand. David Cropley made eight saves on 15 shots.

Woodland 3, Machias 1

At Machias, Scott Boomer broke a 1-1 tie, scoring off a Chad James assist at 5:18 into the second half to lead Woodland past Machias.

Brad Arthers scored an insurance goal with an assist from Boomer for the 5-3 Dragons. James had a first-half goal. Todd Wormell turned away 14 of 19 shots.

Raymond Smith scored an unassisted goal late in the first half for 5-2 Machias. Mike Jenkins made 13 saves on 19 shots.

Old Town 1, Bucksport 1 (2OT)

At Old Town, Lee Larry of Old Town and Bucksport’s Joe Goodin didn’t allow a goal through two overtimes.

Old Town’s Chad Paradis scored the tying goal midway through the second half off a Janis Schaefer assist. Larry stopped 10 of 11 shots for the 5-2-2 Coyotes.

Jordan Trasko scored an unassisted goal in the first half for 2-5-1 Bucksport. Goodin made 24 saves on 25 shots.

JV: Bucksport 4-2
