UMM women shut out UMPI

MACHIAS – Kayla Wood and Nikki Cunningham each recorded a goal and an assist to lead the UMaine-Machias Clippers to a 3-0 women’s soccer win over the UM-Presque Isle Owls Wednesday night.

Sara Rushforth added a goal for the 5-4 winners and Erin O’Connor had an assist. Stephanie Wunderley made 13 saves on 20 shots.

For 4-2-2 UMPI, Billie Martin made six saves on 16 shots.

Thomas 1, Unity 0

At Waterville, Jamie Lockett’s goal off an assist from Terissa Ridge midway through the first half gave the Terriers the winning edge.

Jessica Nasetta made five saves for Thomas.

Men’s soccer

Saint Joseph’s 5, Emerson 0

At Standish, Saint Joseph’s College tallied four goals in the first half en route to victory over Emerson College.

Kevin Melega, Paul Robins, Doug MacCallum and Andre Cushing each scored a goal in the first half. Derek Osmond added a goal in the second half for Saint Joseph’s. Robins grabbed two assist while Cushing and Melega each had one. Will Pike made three saves on six shots for the 4-3-2 Monks.

Jonas Imbert stopped one of 10 shots for 3-6-1 Emerson.

Colby 1, Southern Maine 0

At Gorham, Scott Brown scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute to lead Colby to victory over the University of Southern Maine.

Doug Sibor made four saves on seven shots for the 3-3 Mules.

David Kreps stopped four of 11 shots for the 7-3-1 Huskies.

UMPI 3, UMM 2

At Machias, the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls scored three second-half goals after trailing 2-0 at the half to beat UMaine-Machias.

Corey Harding, Craig Maffei and Devon Peaslee each scored for 5-2-1 UMPI and Richard Feldbaum made six saves on 16 shots.

Pat Corliss scored off an Isiah Eagles assist for 5-5- UMM and Greg Dawson converted a Tom Erlenbach pass. Adam Mauro made six saves on 16 shots.

Field hockey

Worcester State 2, USM 1

At Worcester, Mass., Angela Johnson scored two goals including the game-winner at 41:36 to lead Worcester State by the University of Southern Maine.

Erin MacDonald made seven saves on 16 shots for 6-3 Worcester State.

Christine Hill scored for the Huskies on a penalty stroke in the first half. Allison Hill made no saves on eight shots for 4-5 USM.
