UMF claims field hockey win at UNE

BIDDEFORD – The University of Maine-Farmington scored three unanswered goals Tuesday to earn a 3-1 field hockey victory over the University of New England.

Alyssa St. Pierre, Hattie Agnew and Ashley Wentworth scored for the 7-5 Beavers. Emma Deans provided two assists. Bethany Marshall and Elyse Cole also had assists. Kaeleigh Barker saved six of 14 shots.

Taryn Flagg scored an unassisted goal in the first half for the 4-7 Nor’easters. Ayla Nelson stopped eight of 16 shots.

Men’s soccer

Bowdoin 3, Husson 1

At Bangor, Call Nichols and Nick Powell scored goals as Bowdoin College defeated Husson University.

Bowdoin got on the board 23:32 into the game on an own goal by Husson. Ben Denton-Schneider assisted Powell’s second-half goal. Dan Hicks turned away five of 11 shots for 5-4 Bowdoin of Brunswick.

Justin Gauvin scored with an assist from Tyler Metevier in the second half for 7-6 Husson. Brad Ala saved eight of 29 shots.

UM-Fort Kent 7, UMPI 1

At Fort Kent, Jermaine West scored two goals as the undefeated University of Maine-Fort Kent beat the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

Andre Anderson had a goal and three assists for the 12-0 Bengals. Jarryd Phillips and Luka Odak each scored a goal and provided an assist. Keith Williams and Emlyn Jacoby also scored. Giovanni Sinclair saved one of two shots.

Mat Carrington scored the last goal of the game for 8-4-1 UMPI. Richard Felbaum made five saves on 22 shots.

NMCC 3, Vermont Tech 1

At Randolph, Vt., Luke Ireland had a goal plus an assist to lead Northern Maine Community College of Presque Isle to a Yankee Small College Conference playoff win.

Justin Lyshon and Craig Hannan added goals while Sam Petrie had six saves on 12 shots for NMCC.

Will Chadwick saved 10 of 20 shots for Vermont Tech.

Women’s soccer

Bates 3, Husson 2

At Boucher Field in Bangor, Julie Brown scored off a Katherine Bailey assist with 5:59 to play, lifting Bates College of Lewiston to victory.

Sam Alper provided a goal and an assist and Courtney Talcott scored a goal for the 4-6 Bobcats. Brown also had an assist and Annie Burns made two saves on 17 shots.

Samantha Homer had tied the game 2-2, converting a Kylan Smith pass with 23:16 left. Megan Clement tallied an unassisted goal for the 10-3 Eagles. Tatyana Wolterbeek made six saves on 16 shots.
