Historical society to discuss railroad

BELFAST – The Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad will be the subject of a program presented by the Belfast Historical Society at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Belfast Free Library.

The program will include a history of the railroad using photographs and archival materials from the museum collection, and a video of a train trip taken in 2003.

The Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad was chartered in 1867 and trains first ran in December 1870. Waterfront Belfast and towns in interior Waldo County were connected by the rail line of 33 miles until 2005.

The video shows a caboose trip sponsored by the City Point Central Railroad Museum. A tour of the railroad museum grounds, a trip to Belfast and a tour of the Belfast train yard are featured.

This is the last program meeting for this year. Programs resume in February 2009 and are free and open to the public. For information, visit belfastmuseum.org.
