PERRY – Four people were injured Thursday when a 1990 Jeep, driven by a Perry man, smashed into the driver’s side of a car driven by a Baileyville woman.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Routes 1 and 190.

Injured were Janice Howard, 73, driver of a 2000 Buick Regal, and her two passengers, Ashley McGinley, 19, of Baileyville and Donita Masterson, 32, of Pleasant Point, Trooper Staci Carpenter of the Maine State Police said Thursday.

McGinley and Masterson are pregnant, the trooper said.

Also injured was the driver of the Jeep, Cody Bulmer, 20, of Perry. His passenger, Gregory Wallander, 22, of Eastport, declined treatment. Bulmer’s father, John, owns the Jeep.

Although the accident remains under investigation, police said that Howard, who was at the corner of Routes 1 and 190, pulled out in front of Bulmer, who was traveling north toward Calais. The Bulmer vehicle slammed into the driver’s side of the Howard car. Charges are not expected, Carpenter said.

Howard, McGinley, Masterson and Bulmer were taken by ambulance to Calais Regional Hospital. Howard was admitted to the hospital with multiple injuries and was listed in fair condition by hospital personnel Thursday night. The others were treated and released.

The vehicles were demolished.

Police also are investigating whether everyone was wearing a seat belt.

The Pleasant Point and Eastport police departments assisted Carpenter at the scene with traffic control. Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Tom Chambers and staff from the Maine Department of Transportation also helped at the scene.
