Franklin resident Randy Frost, a 47-year-old father of two children, has been diagnosed with brain cancer and is traveling to Boston for treatment.

To help the family through this very difficult time, friends, family and community members are joining forces by holding a benefit potluck supper for Randy Frost from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Franklin Veterans Club.

Admission for this fundraiser is by donation, and all contributions to help the family with expenses incurred by Frost’s illness will be gratefully accepted.

Laurie Ross reports this event, to benefit a man who was “born and raised” in that community, will feature entertainment and a 50-50 raffle.

Ross wrote that entertainment will be provided by the Higgins Family, Wade Dow and other musicians.

Mary Mackay of The Salvation Army in Bangor reports Christmas applications can be filled out from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at The Salvation Army, 65 South Park St., Bangor.

Individuals or families needing help with the holidays should bring information providing proof of residence, number of people in the household, documentation of food stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and-or income and expense information, and children’s names, ages and birthdays.

Diana Richardson e-mailed that the Hampden Congregational Church Holiday Stars craft fair is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the church, 101 Main Road North, Hampden.

Friday’s fair features chicken pies to take home and warm up for dinner, Richardson wrote, and Saturday’s fair offers holiday shoppers a corn chowder luncheon served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the fair, you will find handmade crafts, baked goods, jewelry and accessories, gift baskets, wreaths and a silent auction.

Jerry Rice, membership coordinator of the Bangor Y, has announced the organization is part of the Armed Services YMCA Department of Defense Outreach Initiative, in which Bangor Y membership fees for eligible participants will be underwritten by the Department of Defense and administered through Military OneSource.

Eligible participants can register by calling Rice at the Bangor Y, 941-2808.

Participants must provide proof of eligibility by showing a military identification card and a copy of deployment orders, and completing an eligibility verification form.

That form is available at the Bangor Y, 17 Second St., or at www.militaryonesource.com.

Plans are being made for 20 members of Pathway Wesleyan Church in Bangor to participate in mission trips next summer to New York City, Washington, D.C., or Mexico.

Those staying in the U.S. need to raise approximately $800 each, and those traveling to Mexico need to raise approximately $1,200 each, reports Kelly Frye.

To help raise those funds, the group will make pies for Thanksgiving.

“We have a selection of pies to choose from,” Frye wrote, which will be offered for $10 each, along with two types of cheesecakes, which will be available for $15 each.

Orono Pubic Library director Kathy Marks Molloy invites you to come see the sunshine and flowers quilt and the Bangor and Aroostook HO gauge train set, with track and transformer, which are on display at Merrill Bank, 69 Main St., Orono.

The quilt and train set have been donated to the OPL to benefit the building fund for the construction of a new library at the corner of Pine and Birch streets.

Louise Snow designed and pieced the quilt, which was machine-quilted by Dianne Hodgkins, and Fred Mason donated the train set to the fundraiser.

The two items are up for raffle, and tickets for each raffle are $5, or five tickets for $20, and can be purchased at Merrill Bank or the library.

The drawing for both items is Wednesday, Dec. 10.
