Fort Kent woman charged with ID theft

BANGOR – A 60-year-old northern Maine woman has been indicted on identify theft, mail fraud and other charges for allegedly stealing another person’s personal information and using it to obtain credit cards.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Sharon Forest of Fort Kent used another person’s Social Security number, date of birth and other information to fraudulently obtain six credit cards.

Forest also is accused of opening up a post office box in the name of the other person and using it to receive the credit cards and federal housing subsidies in the identity theft victim’s name.

In all, Forest is charged with six counts of mail fraud and one count each of theft of public money, aggravated identity theft, credit card fraud and false statements.
