POLAND – Maine sheriffs say a teenager’s text messages to her friends helped to locate her after she got lost in the woods in Poland.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department says 14-year-old Amanda Christakis of Poland took a walk in the woods after breaking up with her boyfriend and got lost after dark Monday.
Police say she was texting her friends on a cell phone with no minutes left on it. The cellular company tracked her coordinates, and she later called 911.
A rescue helicopter spotted Amanda just before 9 p.m. She was treated at a Lewiston hospital for hypothermia.
