PASSADUMKEAG – State police are investigating whether a Goulds Ridge Road woman’s home invasion early Wednesday is connected to a sexual assault and beating here on Oct. 29.

“There’s no apparent connection made yet between the two incidents, but we’re very aware that it’s early yet and that this is a town of only about 400 people,” Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Wednesday.

The Goulds Ridge Road woman reported early Wednesday that an unidentified man forced his way into her home late Tuesday night, McCausland said. The woman suffered injuries, but McCausland would not describe the incident as an assault.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment and later released, McCausland said. No description of her assailant was available.

A team of state police detectives and troopers was at the woman’s home early Wednesday, he said.

A Pleasant Street woman in her 60s reported that a man forced his way into her home, sexually assaulted and badly beat her on Oct. 29.

The woman reported the assault after the man left her home. A state police evidence team and several detectives went to her house to assist in the investigation. Evidence collected at the scene is being processed at the state crime laboratory in Augusta

The woman was taken by ambulance to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln and transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor before she was released.

State police have yet to release a description of the assailant in the Pleasant Street case.

Passadumkeag is a community of about 440 people located about 15 miles north of Old Town and just south of Howland. Pleasant Street is about a mile long off U.S. Route 2, near the Penobscot River. Surrounded by several shorter roads and cul-de-sacs, Pleasant Street is the main road of the community, with a U.S. Postal Service branch office, church, town office and volunteer fire station along it.

Pleasant Street connects to St. Johns Road and Goulds Ridge Road east of Route 2.
