WILTON – Maine State Police are investigating the death of a 17-month-old boy who was reported to have fallen down a flight of stairs.

Officials said 20-year-old Brandy Sweet called police Saturday morning and said her son, Matteo Hanson, had fallen down the stairs at their apartment on Route 2 in Wilton.

State police spokesman Stephen McCausland said police investigate every death involving a child under age 3. An autopsy is expected, but police are not calling the death suspicious.
