Distracted by phone, driver crashes

ROCKLAND – A woman distracted by her cell phone was hospitalized with a back injury after she slammed into a parked car on Main Street on Sunday evening.

Lindsey Curtis, 27, of South Thomaston was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport after the 6:31 p.m. accident. A passenger, Haley Robinson, 14, address unknown, complained of face pain and also was taken to the hospital. Another passenger, Owen Curtis, 6, did not complain of injury but also was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the accident report.

According to Officer Larry Muldoon’s police report, Curtis was traveling north on Main Street in a 1997 Ford sedan owned by Jeanette Alley of Rockland, when she apparently was distracted by her ringing cell phone and rear-ended a 2001 Subaru Forester owned by Hillary Stanley, 22, of Walpole that was parked in a marked parking space near the Strand Theatre.

Damage to the Ford sedan was estimated at $3,000 and damage to the Subaru SUV was estimated at $1,500. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
