BANGOR – The Hammond Street Senior Center’s popular weeklong silent auction, “It’s a Basket Case,” is scheduled for Dec. 8-12. The fundraiser will kick off with an after-hours event 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at 2 Hammond St. The silent auction ends at noon Friday.
Monday’s gathering will offer free refreshments, entertainment with pianist Tom “Jazzou” Jones, and a cash bar staffed by Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant.
Local businesses and members contribute merchandise, gift certificates for products and services and complete themed baskets, which are sold to the highest bidder.
During the week of Dec. 8-12, members, family and friends, employees, patrons of the center’s downtown business neighbors and the public are invited to view and bid on more than 150 theme baskets containing jewelry, river cruise tickets, toys, collectibles, wine, restaurant gift certificates, original artworks, car and automotive items and spa passes.
Baskets appropriate for all ages, genders, budgets and interests are available.
The center will contact and make arrangements with winners who are unable to attend or collect their baskets after the silent auction ends at noon Friday, Dec. 12.
A sample of the great items already donated include a High Stakes basket with an overnight stay and buffet for two and other gifts donated by Hollywood Slots of Bangor and a Made-in-Maine basket filled with wine, sauces and tasty treats donated by Ann Marie’s Kitchen.
