A Bangor woman was arrested and charged with criminal mischief early Tuesday morning after allegedly scratching an unflattering word onto a car belonging to a rival for a young man’s affections.
The incident began when an Elm Street woman called police to report that someone wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt appeared to be carving something along the roof of her car, according to Bangor police Sgt. Catherine Rumsey.
When Officer Steve Pelletier arrived in the area, he found Kerry Jenkins, 28, on nearby Garland Street wearing clothing that matched the description provided by the victim. Jenkins denied any wrongdoing.
Though a dollar estimate for damage wasn’t immediately available, Rumsey said the police report indicated that the victim’s car had multiple scratches on its roof, hood and driver’s side door. Police recovered a small folding knife near the damaged vehicle. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
A Hampden police officer arrested a local man Sunday night after catching him stealing empty bottles and cans from an outdoor storage trailer outside of Edwards Family Shop ‘n Save Supermarket.
The store had set up a collection site for returnable bottles as a way to raise money for community causes, Officer Marc Egan said Wednesday. Store employees contacted police after noticing occasional decreases in the number of returnables in the trailer. A review of surveillance footage and a study of when the bottles were disappearing gave Egan a good indication of when the next episode might occur.
“I sat across the road and watched and caught him,” Egan said, referring to Sunday when he charged Tommy Hart, 44, of Hampden with theft. Hart was taken to Penobscot County Jail and since has been released on bail. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
In another Hampden case, police arrested a Levant man on an outstanding warrant Monday night while serving a summons for a noise complaint to the renter of a Main Street North apartment.
Though the tenant was not at home at the time, Officers Marc Egan and Ben Eyles and Sgt. Scott Webber found Anthony Landry, 19, visiting. Landry was arrested on a warrant for cultivation of marijuana, Egan said.
Police also summoned a juvenile for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Egan said.
Egan said the matter remains under investigation. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
