Benefit tonight for food pantry in Oakfield

Debbie Gray, executive director of Nature’s Bounty Food Pantry of Oakfield, reports that organization has “seen a large increase in need in our coverage area” and, she told me, funds to fulfill those needs are nearly nonexistent.

To help neighbors in need, Nature’s Bounty will hold a spaghetti supper and holiday dessert auction-toy gift auction at 5 p.m. today at the Oakfield Community Center.

Community member Nelson Miller will serve as auctioneer for this benefit, which will help the organization assist people from East Millinocket to Littleton, Gray said.

If you cannot attend but want to help this food pantry that is “really stretched this year,” call Gray at 521-4249 or send donations to the Nature’s Bounty Food Pantry, P.O. Box 102, Smyrna Mills 04780.

Emma Remick reports the annual First Congregational Church of Ellsworth Christmas Fair will be 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the church on the corner of Church and State streets.

Featured are “small hand-crafted items, fleece blankets, jewelry, books, baked goods and attic treasures,” Remick wrote.

Bobbe Elliott invites you to the Tremont Ladies Aid Christmas Sale, 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 6, at Tremont Congregational Church, Route 102.

A raffle, baked goods, white elephant table, crafts and books will be available.

Cindy Greenacre and Hampden Academy Dollars for Scholars participants invite you to Breakfast with Santa, 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Reeds Brook Middle School cafeteria in Hampden.

Admission is $2.50 or a maximum of $10 per family.

The fundraiser includes the Holly Jolly Bake Sale.

A benefit bake sale and spaghetti supper for the Adam and Marcia Peterson family of Glenburn, who lost their home in a mid-November fire, will begin with a sale at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day, followed by a supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church, 911 Hudson Road.

Admission is by donation.

Donations of home goods and gift cards may be left at the church at 9 a.m. that day.

Outside, the Boy Scouts will hold a bake sale and sell trees and wreaths to benefit their troop.

Cynthia Jennings reminds readers that Old Town Public Library and the River Coalition will hold Holiday Happenings from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the library.

A children’s dollar-shopping mall, the library Friends cookie sale, photos with Santa Claus and the Hullabaloo Gift Basket Raffle are featured.

The day ends with the community tree-lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at Riverfront Park.

Then, plan to attend the holiday tea 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the library.

Take a tour, listen to carols by Port of Call, and enjoy the gift basket raffle at 2:30 p.m.

Chris Paydos says the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church Women’s Fellowship will hold its Kris Kringle Koffee 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the church chapel, 824 W. Main St.

Admission is a $2 donation. The event offers modestly priced swags for sale as well as crafts made by churchwomen, and holiday decorations donated by Bob’s Hardware.

Patty Henner invites you to the University of Maine Page Farm and Home Museum annual Holiday Shoppe craft fair 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, on the Orono campus.

There is no admission and plenty of parking so you can visit with Maine crafters and artisans who will display and sell their works.

The Rev. Suzie Gowie e-mailed that Monroe Community Church and First Congregational Church of Brooks will be co-hosts for a cookie and candy sale from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and after the 9:30 a.m. worship Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Monroe church, 28 W. Main St.

Proceeds benefit the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund to help neighbors in need of everything from fuel to food.

Members of First Baptist Church of Belfast will celebrate its 200th anniversary next July and are raising money for that event.

A public supper is 5-7 p.m. Saturday Dec. 6, at the church on High Street.

Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12 for this meal of baked beans, macaroni and cheese, all the fixings and gingerbread for dessert.

Beth Lambert says a benefit concert with singer-guitarist Chuck Donnelly, 13-year-old fiddler Emma Walsh and singer-songwriter Bobbi Lane will be 7-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Mariaville Grange.

Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children.

Desserts, coffee and cider will be available, and all proceeds benefit What’s For Suppa? Food Pantry.

Richard “Skip” Young of Glenburn says several events will enable you to assist with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.

For example, you can help Fill-A-Van all weekend at the Bangor Mall.

During Bangor’s Festival of Lights Parade, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, Young said, members of Bangor and Brewer high school ROTC programs will march beside the float and collecting toys from parade viewers.

Young encourages you to bring unwrapped toys and have the student “place them on the float.”

Sunbury Village will hold a brunch from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Dec. 7, on Ohio Street and admission is an unwrapped toy.
