MOUNT DESERT – CBS News’ “Sunday Morning” is expected to broadcast a segment this weekend with faces and places familiar on Mount Desert Island.
The program was in Northeast Harbor recently to work on a piece on the late philanthropist Brooke Astor, according to Robert Pyle, director of the Northeast Harbor Library.
The segment is about Astor’s relationship with the Northeast Harbor community, where she summered for decades before her death in 2007 at age 105.
Astor had given money to the library and other local institutions and served as one of the library’s trustees.
CBS News reporter Erin Moriarity interviewed Pyle and Astor’s former cook Alicia Johnson at the library for the segment. The television crew also shot footage of Astor’s former local summer home, Cove End, and at Saint Mary’s-by-the-Sea, the Episcopal church where Astor attended Sunday services.
The segment is expected to be broadcast on Sunday, according to Pyle. The program airs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sundays on WABI-TV 5 in Bangor.
