BAR HARBOR — National Park Service Director James M. Ridenour has named Saturday, Aug. 25, as “National Parks Day,” allowing visitors free admission to all of the national parks.

In addition to suspending the entrance fee for the day, Acadia National Park plans to celebrate by emphasizing the history and philosophy of the National Park Service in each of its regularly scheduled park naturalist programs.

“We hope these activities will foster a better understanding of the resources and the reasons the National Park Service is here,” said Acadia Superintendent Jack Hauptman. “National parks belong to the people, and this is one way we can thank visitors for their continued support,” he said.

The National Parks Day “fee-free day” applies only to the fee collected at the entrance station on the Park Loop Road near Sand Beach. It does not apply to the campground fees charged at Blackwoods and Seawall campgrounds.
