Bangor West blanks Eastport> Old Town defeats Bangor East; Sunrise rolls past Calais 10-2

Bangor West, Sunrise of Steuben, Old Town, and Border of Hodgdon each posted wins in District 3 Little League playoff action Tuesday.

Bangor West beat Eastport 12-0, Sunrise defeated Calais 10-2, Old Town beat Bangor East 13-3 and Border defeated Machias 13-5.

Bangor West will entertain the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between Bucksport and Orono-Veazie. The loser of the game between Bucksport and Orono-Veazie will travel to Eastport. Calais will host the loser of Friday’s Hampden-Brewer matchup while Sunrise gets the loser of that game. Border will travel to Old Town while Machias travels to play Bangor East.

The dates for those games have not been decided.

Sunrise 10, Calais 2

At Steuben, Brandon Emerson powered Sunrise with a single, double and RBI.

Justin Winslow smashed a two-run triple, and Chekotah Wingo struck out eight in six innings of work for Sunrise.

Cy Tapley led 0-1 Calais with a single and double, and Cody Ryan smacked two singles. Joe Foster also had a single.

Bangor West 12, Eastport 0

At Bangor, Andrew Treadwell tossed a one-hitter to lead Bangor West to the victory.

Treadwell had 10 strikeouts on the day. Kevin Proctor hit three triples and drove in a run while Derrick Shain launched a two-run homer in the first, had a double and four RBIs. Jason Britton had two doubles and James Duke had two singles for Bangor West.

Ambrose Dana singled for Eastport’s only hit.

Old Town 13, Bangor East 3

At Old Town, Brian Tewhey tossed a one-hitter, striking out 10 batters along the way, to lead Old Town to a District 3 little league victory.

Nick Buck ripped a triple and a single and drove in five runs. Chad Adams-Christiansen added a triple and a single of his own. Tewhey singled twice.

Jeff Oertel singled in the third for Bangor’s only hit.

Border 13, Machias 5

At Hodgdon, Matt Day went 5-for-5 at the plate and struck out 13 to lead Border to the win.

Day had two doubles and three singles, while Chris Blanchette had a double and a single for Border.

Barrett Craven launched a two-run homer in the first and added a triple to lead Machias. Ricky Fagonde had a single and a dobule.

Even though this was at Border, Machias won the coin flip for home team Border (1-0) 161 023 – 13 12 2 Machias (0-1) 300 200 – 5 6 4
