Brewer HRs eclipse Sunrise

Three Brewer players hit home runs in the second inning as Brewer defeated Sunrise 11-0 in District 3 11-12 year-old Little League action Tuesday.

In other games, Bucksport defeated Bangor West 4-1 and Orono-Veazie defeated Eastport 29-4.

Brewer next meets Old Town, Sunrise travels to Millinocket, Bucksport plays Coastal, Bangor West will play Machias, Orono-Veazie hosts Border. Eastport was eliminated.

Brewer 11, Sunrise 0

At Brewer, Andy Sullivan, Lucas Trundy and Chris Cote each socked home runs in the second inning to power Brewer.

Sullivan ripped a two-run homer and also singled, Trundy launched a three-run homer and Cote added a two-run shot of his own. Andy Tremble singled twice and Joel Barrett had an RBI-double.

Brandon Emerson and Checkdakota Wingo each singled for Sunrise.

Bucksport 4, Bangor West 1

At 13th Street Field in Bangor, winning pitcher Chris McHale provided himself all the cushion he’d need with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

Adam Sheeham drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for the winners. McHale struck out 11 and walked three en route to a two-hitter.

Jason Britton had an RBI double and Andy Savage added another double for Bangor West.

Orono-Veazie 29, Eastport 4

At Marden Park in Orono, Mike Merritt ripped a triple, double and single, collecting four RBIs, to key the 16-hit attack as Orono-Veazie ended it early on the 10-run rule.

Dereck Sinclair added two doubles and drove in three runs for Orono-Veazie, while Zac Means drilled a bases-loaded triple. Brandon Terrill and Tyler Jellison added two singles each. Terrill struck out nine and walked two on the hill.

For Eastport, Ambrose Dana had an RBI triple and Max Myers smacked a double. Billy Curtis and Leah Moores each singled and scored.

Softball

Bangor 13, Old Town 7

At Old Town, Bangor scored six runs in the second inning to post the win over Old Town in District 3 9-10 year-old softball action Tuesday.

Courtni DePhilippo, Adrienne Batchelder, Faith Goldsmith and Kasey Baird each drove in two runs with singles to pace Bangor.

Hannah Marquis singled twice and Amber Rand doubled for Old Town.
