Central Maine papers hire executive editor

AUGUSTA – David B. Offer, who has been in the newspaper business for more than 30 years, has been appointed executive editor of the Morning Sentinel of Waterville and the Kennebec Journal of Augusta.

Most recently, Offer was executive editor of Stars and Stripes, where he supervised a staff of 100.

Prior to that he was editor of The Newport Daily News in Rhode Island and served two years as a Pulitzer Prize juror. He has been managing editor of the LaCrosse Tribune in Wisconsin and an investigative reporter at the Hartford Courant in Connecticut and the Wenatchee World in Washington.

John T. Christie, president of the Morning Sentinel and the Kennebec Journal, said Offer brings important skills to both newspapers.

“David is a highly experienced newsman who has succeeded at both large and small daily newspapers,” Christie said.

Offer succeeds Soren W. Nielsen, who retired this summer.

Offer and his wife, Susan, are moving to the area from Arlington, Va.
