Portrait to be displayed at firefighter memorial

EASTPORT – The portrait of lost New York City firefighter Angel Juarbe by local artist Jim Lavindoskey that was featured at the memorial service last month will be on display for his memorial service in New York on Saturday.

Juarbe was the winner of the $250,000 first prize in the Fox television series “Murder in Small Town X,” which was taped in Eastport earlier this year.

Juarbe, a New York City firefighter, lost his life on Sept. 11 after the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Eastport residents John Miller, Chris Brown, Winnie Higgins, Rand Castile and John D. Surles Jr. will attend the family services in the Bronx, N.Y. Eastport pilot Bob Kennedy of Quoddy Air will fly them to New York for the service.

Kennedy flew Juarbe on several charters during the shooting of the television series, and he will join the delegation for the service. Perry Fire Chief Paula Frost, who led the firefighters’ color guard for the local memorial service, also plans to attend.

Correction: The name of Eastport artist Jim Levendosky was misspelled in a news brief in Wednesday’s Maine Day.
