Recently my husband and I stopped at a grocery store in the Cherryfield area. As we left the store, we saw some people beside a van. They were eating and throwing their garbage — food, paper, and plastic — on the grass.
My husband very politely told them that probably someone in the store would give them a plastic carry-out bag to put their garbage in so they wouldn’t have to throw it on the ground. Their response was rude and obscene.
We send people to Third World countries to teach them about sanitation and the spread of disease.
Too bad we can’t do the same for people who live in our country. Bernice McHatten Bucks Harbor
