CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Newburgh native Ricky Craven, the 1995 NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year, and his wife Cathleen are the parents of a boy, Richard Everett Craven, their second child.
The baby was born Monday at University Hospital. The Cravens also have a daughter, Riley, 4 1/2.
“This Monday really perked me up when my son was born,” said Craven, who is coming off a disappointing 36th-place finish Sunday at Watkins Glen. “He was overdue by a few days and that might have had some bearing on my mind at Watkins Glen.
“Last weekend was not one I particularly care to remember, as far as racing goes.”
Craven has struggled lately, finishing no better than 19th in his last four races.
“Maybe the baby will be my good luck charm,” he said.
Craven is preparing this week for Sunday’s GM Goodwrench Dealers 400 in Brooklyn, Mich. Last year, one of Craven’s four top-10 finishes was at Michigan, where he finished seventh.
Craven will also run in Saturday’s Busch Grand National Series race at the Michigan track, the Detroit Gasket 200.
