McCrum goal pumps up Panthers> Senior’s corner kick with 23 seconds remaining breaks tie with Ashland

ASHLAND – Tied at 1-1, senior Rachel McCrum’s corner kick with 23 seconds remaining deflected off an Ashland defender and crossed the goal line to boost Central Aroostook of Mars Hill to a 2-1 schoolgirl soccer win against Ashland Wednesday afternoon.

Cathy Dill tied the game with 13:34 remaining in the second half on an assist from Charity Cummings for the 3-0-3 Panthers. Misty Hewitt made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Amy Palmer boosted 2-1 Ashland to an early 1-0 lead on an assist from Heidi Maker. Mandy Maker saved 10 of 12 shots.

Fort Fairfield 2, Van Buren 0

At Fort Fairfield, goalie Devin Jewett stopped five of six shots to help the 3-1-2 Tigers blank the 2-3 Crusaders.

Sarah Nason and Jaime Parsley each had a goal for the winners.

For Van Buren, Hope Ouellette turned back eight of the 14 shots she saw.

Houlton 4, Caribou 2

At Caribou, Autumn Gentle scored twice to lift the Shiretowners past the 1-2 Vikings.

Jen Bell and Kelly Socoby chipped in a goal apiece for the winners. Jessica Prosser rejected 16 of 18 in net.

Jen Corey tallied both of the Caribou goals as Meaghan Lombard saved nine of the 13 shots she faced.

Wisdom 5, Easton 0

At Wisdom, Tracy Guerrette torched the nets for four goals in the 3-2-1 Pioneers offensive assault on the 0-4 Bears.

Debra Lowe added the other Wisdom goal as goalie Jen Derosier was a perfect four of four in net.

Jaime Hewitt turned back 31 of the 36 Wisdom attempts she saw.

Madawaska 2, Fort Kent 1

At Fort Kent, Michele Dufour’s unassisted goal at the 26:48 mark of the second half gave the 4-0-1 Owls the win over the 1-3-1 Warriors.

Erin Pelletier tallied the other Madawaska goal unassisted as goalie Stephanie Gagnon stopped six of 10.

Heather Bard scored the lone Fort Kent goal on a feed from Cassie Guimond. Andrea Marquis sent back 12 of the 20 shots she saw.

Washburn 3, Limestone 1

At Washburn, Megan Thomas netted two goals to lift the 2-3-1 Beavers to the win over the 2-2-1 Eagles.

April Busse added a goal for the winners as goalie Amy Allen stopped nine of 12.

Lori Lavoie had the lone Limestone goal and Chrissy Harvey turned back 13 of the 16 Washburn shots she saw.

Boys soccer

Washburn 2, Limestone 1

At Washburn, Mike Kelley scored on a Kyle Thibodeau assist with 4:19 remaining in the game to boost the Beavers to the win.

Eric Brown’s penalty-kick goal tied the game with 12 minutes remaining for 2-4 Washburn. Nick Thompson made 12 saves on 13 shots.

Curtis Coachman lifted 0-6 Limestone to a 1-0 lead with 29:45 left in the second half with an unassisted tally. Seth Fernald stopped 14 of 16 shots.

Fort Fairfield 2, Van Buren 1

At Fort Fairfield, Joel Brahim’s goal with 3:40 remaining in the first half turned out to be the game-winner for the Tigers.

Jason Cunningham assisted Brahim’s goal, and notched one himself 9:57 into the first half off a Brahim assist for 5-1 Fort Fairfield. John Hayes made 17 saves on 20 shots.

Travis Lajoie tied the game up with his unassisted goal 10:53 into the second half for 3-1-1 Van Buren. Nathan Marquis made eight saves on 10 shots.

Wisdom 5, Easton 1

At St. Agatha, Josh Roy and Eric Soucy had two goals each to power the 2-2-1 Pioneers to the victory over the 2-2 Bears.

Andy Soucy also added a goal for Wisdom, while goalie Chad Bouchard saved 10 of the 19 shots he faced.

Erik Lamoreau recorded the lone Easton score and A.J. Cleaves turned back 18 of 30 shots.

Caribou 3, Houlton 0

At Caribou, Ryan Soucie netted a goal to lead a balanced Viking attack past the Shiretowners.

Ryan McCullough and Jeremy Guerrette added a goal apiece for 1-1-1 Caribou. Goalie Jason St. Peter saved three of seven shots.

For 1-3 Houlton, Ryan Tremblay stopped seven of 16 attempts.
