THOMASTON — Town and state police were at the scene of a fatal accident on West Meadow Street Tuesday night. Police reported that a single occupant of the car, a male, was killed in the crash.
Police reported that the accident happened around 9 p.m., about 300 feet from the Rockland town line.
Police and Thomaston Fire Department members searched the area of the crash with flashlights for anyone who might have been thrown from the car.
Damage to the car was so extensive that the body was not removed until 10:30 p.m. The body was taken to the Davis Funeral Home. Identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The car apparently was headed toward Rockland at a high rate of speed on the narrow country road, police said. The vehicle slammed into a large tree and rolled over on its roof, spreading debris over a large area. No brake marks were visible on the road.
