DEXTER – Sean Cole scored with 10 minutes left in the game as the Tigers won their first schoolboy soccer game of the season, 1-0 over Old Town on Friday.
Matt Small had an assist on Cole’s goal and Dan Cox made eight saves on 10 shot for 1-12 Dexter. Danny Hardesty made 11 saves on 21 shots for 1-10-1 Old Town.
Penquis 0, Lee Academy 0 (2 OT)
At Milo, the game was played mainly in the midfield and the result was a scoreless tie.
Mike Harris made four saves on five shots for 2-7-3 Penquis. Jon Cole had five stops on nine shots for 5-4-2 Lee Academy.
Schenck 1, PVHS 0
At East Millinocket, Chris Wyman’s direct kick with 7:38 left in the first half proved to be the game-winner.
Goalkeeper Mike Kimball made eight saves on 16 shots for the 3-6-3 Schenck.
For 6-5-1 Penobscot Valley of Howland, goalie Joey Dunn made nine saves on 19 shots.
Bucksport 4, Foxcroft 2
At Bucksport, Greg Gobel and Ken Morrison each had two goals and an assist as the Golden Bucks won.
Jeff LaChance also added an assist for Bucksport. David Speed and Seth Kimball each scored for Foxcroft Academy.
Chris Marzolf saved 11 shots on 16 shots for 8-2-3 Bucksport. Andy Hunt made 12 saves on 19 shots for the 9-2-2 Ponies.
Valley 7, Vinalhaven 2
At Vinalhaven, Mickey Young scored three goals and added two assists as Valley of Bingham won.
Jeremy Frigon added two goals, while Chris Willer added a goal and two assists. Derek Baker also scored for Valley. Lucas Cates and Peter Belanger each had an assist.
Asa Ringue scored for Vinalhaven off assists from Nick Hildings and Mike Philbrook, who scored on a penalty kick.
Dustin Giberson had 12 saves on 19 shots for the 3-6-3 Cavaliers. Chris Guptil made six saves on 16 shots for 0-9 Vinalhaven.
Girls soccer
Searsport 2, Schenck 1
At Searsport, Melanie Shaver scored with one second left in regulation as Searsport beat Schenck of East Millinocket.
Shannon Geary had on assist on the game-winner. Melinda Stamp scored with 21:14 left in the first half for the 8-3 Vikings.
Beth Clukey tied the game at one wiht 18:22 left in the second half.
Jessica Barton made 12 saves on 15 shots for Searsport. Holly Rosebush made 15 saves on 18 shots for 6-5-2 Schenck.
Field hockey
Dexter 1, Bangor 0
At Dexter, Jessica Girard scored three minutes into the game to give the Tigers the victory.
Christina Dorman didn’t make a save and faced only one shot for 7-4-1 Dexter. Julie Malmstrom made 20 saves on 27 shots for 2-9 Bangor.
JV: Dexter 0, Bangor 0.
Piscataquis 5, Stearns 0
At Guilford, Amanda Giles contributed a goal and an assist as the Pirates improved to 11-2.
Miranda Durant, Darby Smiley and Sacha Jackson scored a goal for Piscataquis. Goalie Jana Watson faced no shots.
Colleen Burgess made 17 saves on 24 shots for 2-10 Stearns of Millinocket.
