A Perry man led Brewer police on a 42-mile, high-speed chase that ended at the Washington County line in Beddington.
According to a report by Cpl. Daryl Massey of the Brewer Police Department, Michael Brown, 43, was traveling 60 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour zone on State Street just after midnight.
Massey tried to stop Brown’s vehicle, but Brown allegedly sped up to 70 miles an hour, turned around in the Twin City Plaza parking lot and drove back down State Street.
Brown turned left onto North Main Street and proceeded out Route 9 toward Eddington. Massey called for assistance from the state police. Massey chased Brown at speeds that at one time reached 100 miles per hour, but Massey said the chase eventually slowed to about 70 miles per hour.
While Massey was giving chase state police pulled over a tractor-trailer truck and used the truck to block the road in Beddington.
Brown was forced to pull off the road to avoid the truck and was arrested and transported to Penobscot County Jail.
Brown was charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 miles per hour, driving to endanger, eluding a police officer and possession of fireworks. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
