Thibodeau powers MMA to victory

CASTINE – Don Thibodeau rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns to power Maine Maritime Academy to a 29-15 win over Framingham State Saturday in Maine college action.

Thibodeau opened the scoring with a 53-yard run with 6:42 remaining in the first quarter, and scored again with 8:03 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Maine Maritime (2-7) gained 365 yards on 61 carries and passed for only 12 yards

Framingham State (2-7) was led by quarterback Abe Bascon’s 186 yards passing, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Maine Maritime’s defense, which had eight sacks.

Bates 38, Bowdoin 35 (OT)

At Lewiston, Nat Carr kicked a 32-yard field goal in overtime to give Bates its first victory of the season.

Bowdoin scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and tied the score at 35-35 on Justin Hardison’s 23-yard run with 1:34 left to send the game into overtime.

Bates (1-6) was led by Sean Atkins’ 164 yards rushing and a 23-yard scoring run. He also scored on 36-yard pass reception. Quarterback Kane Jankoski passed for 250 yards and our touchdowns.

Mike Taylor led Bowdoin (1-6) with 119 rushing yards, and Hardison passed for 153 yards.

Tufts 10, Colby 3

At Waterville, Keven Kelly rushed for 81 yards and Tufts’ defense had seven interceptions in the victory over Colby.

Tufts (5-2) won the low-scoring game despite losing three fumbles, being outgained 337 yards to 170 yards, and managing only eight first downs to Colby’s 24.

But Tufts’ defense picked off seven passes, including three by Mark Tilki.

Colby (5-2) gained 177 yards on the ground and another 160 through the air.
