Teacher’s slap leads to apology, $250 donation

STANDISH — Charges against a teacher accused of hitting a student last year will be dropped, but first the teacher must apologize to the student and donate $250 to a charity.

Robert Bourget must also have a clean record for one year in order to remove the misdemeanor charge from his record.

Bourget teaches physical education and coaches girls basketball and boys soccer at Bonny Eagle High School. He was charged last July with striking Timothy Harmon, 16, in the school lobby while staff and students stood nearby. The incident occurred in May.

Harmon was playing in the hallway with a basketball when the ball slipped out of his hands and hit Bourget in the face, Thibeault said. Bourget then allegedly struck Harmon with an open hand.
