BUCKSPORT – Carey Murch scored off a Corinne Keene assist two minutes into the second overtime to give the Bucksport Golden Bucks a 2-1 victory over the Orono Red Riots in schoolgirl soccer action Thursday.
It was the opener for each team.
Keene set up Murch off a corner kick. Kelly Bakeman scored Bucksport’s first goal unassisted on a breakaway six minutes into the second half. Goalie Amie Nightingale made 13 saves on 16 shots.
Steph Ford booted home a first-half goal for the Red Riots off a pass from Kathy Walsh. Netkeeper Lisa Flemming made 10 saves on 15 shots.
Hampden 1, Brewer 1 (2OT)
At Hampden, Kate Bishop scored the game-tying goal for Hampden Academy with 2:37 left in the game as the Broncos and Brewer battled to a tie through 2 overtime periods.
For the 0-0-1 Broncos, Missy Roberts assisted on the goal. Becky Huson made 3 saves on 12 shots.
Angie Lufkin scored an unassisted goal for the 0-0-1 Witches. Jen Poliquin made 11 saves on 20 shots.
Ellsworth 3, Nokomis 0
At Ellsworth, Amy King scored twice to help the Eagles win their opener over the Nokomis Warriors of Newport.
Melanie Newman had a goal and an assist for the 1-0 Eagles with Michelle Davis adding an assist.
Davis and Cassidy Borgman split the goalie duties and had a total of two saves on four Nokomis shots.
The 0-2 Warriors’ goalkeeper Christy Grant posted four saves on eight shots.
