AUGUSTA – The Hudson Museum has received a grant from the Maine Office of Tourism’s Gifford’s Fund. The funds will be used to promote Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance events.
Money for the Gifford’s Fund is raised from the sale of Gifford’s Landmark Ice Cream. For every half-gallon sold, Gifford’s donates five cents to tourism promotion.
The goal of the Gifford’s Fund is to help organizations promote awareness of their community’s historic and cultural resources while stimulating economic growth. The Office of Tourism received 51 applications from every corner of the state, but had only enough money to fund 13 programs. Each of the 13 organizations will receive between $500 and $700 to assist with marketing special events and programs.
Other grant recipients include the Watershed Council for the Ceramic Arts for their Salad Days, the Maine Art Museum Trail, the Eastport Area Chamber of Commerce for the 15th annual Eastport Salmon Festival, the Maine Historical Society for its August Afternoon program, the Northern Maine Development Commission for the Acadian Festival; Maine Archives and Museums for Maine Heritage Day 2001; Lewiston-Auburn Arts for its Calendar, the Moosehead Historical Society for Forest Heritage Days; the Lark Society for Chamber Music for the Portland Concert Series; the Maine Folklife Center for its fourth annual Folk Traditions Festival; the town of Richmond for Art in the Park, and the Norlands Living History Center for the Autumn Celebration highlighting the Underground Railroad.
