A salvaged piece of the hull of the USS Arizona, sunk at Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941, will be one of the many highlights of the second annual SOS breakfast of the Marine Corps League on Saturday, June 21, in Warren.
John R. McDermott, commandant of the league’s midcoast detachment, said this is the first time the historic relic will be seen locally. Accompanying it will be a scale model of the battleship. Both are on loan from the DAV.
A display of modern weaponry will be exhibited by a contingent of Marines from Company A, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines from Topsham. Included will be rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and mortars. Precision close order drill will be performed by a platoon of Young Marines, ages 8-18.
The breakfast will be from 8 a.m. until noon.
