Now that Maine Yankee has quit airing its TV commercials telling us how safe and altogether wonderful the plant is, the paper industry has stepped in to fill the void with Tim Sample. I’ve enjoyed his act in the past and I think it’s a bit worrisome to see that he, along with Gearge Mitchell, has fallen victim to the Humpty Dumpty Syndrome. First, it was George, throwing in with the tobacco industry, and now Tim, speaking for the paper companies.
I can’t imagine what may have motivated Mitchell. As for Sample, I suppose he figures that when all that’s left of the Maine forest is a memory, there’ll be more demand for this stock-in-trade nostalgia routines. Frank M. Myers Dover-Foxcroft
