Montville arts center gets $3,000 grant

MONTVILLE – The Arts Center at Kingdom Falls in Montville has received a $3,000 grant for the next year’s Scholarship Outreach Program from the Maine Community Foundation’s Waldo County Fund. Belfast’s Community Multi-cultural Arts Project is acting as the financial agent for the program. The arts center plans to use the grant to provide full and partial scholarships for students throughout Waldo County who are interested in the arts and who need financial assistance to participate in the Arts Center 2002 Summer Program.

“This grant will greatly expand opportunities for county residents to take advantage of our wide range of arts workshops,” director Alan Crichton says. “This year, we provided 26 out of our 142 total students with scholarship assistance. In the coming summer, through this grant and our outreach to county school districts and adults, we expect to increase that proportion substantially.”

The Arts Center is a nonprofit organization offering inspired arts experiences through artists’ residences and community arts programs. Now in its second year of operation, this past summer Kingdom Falls ran 29 workshops, ranging from dance to woodcarving, painting to poetry and songwriting to pit- fired ceramics.
